NYC Assistance Resources

Due to the unprecedented impact of COVID-19 on New York City’s workforce, the City of New York has developed a list of resources for those who may be unemployed due to COVID-19 or are seeking additional assistance. The list below will be updated frequently. Click the button below to view the NYC Government Assistance for Individuals list.

NYC Human Resources Administration

NYC HRA has created a one-stop resource page called ACCESS where you can apply for SNAP, Medicaid Renewal, and Cash Assistance. You can also download their app to access via mobile phone.

Housing Assistance

Family Homelessness & Eviction Prevention Supplement (FHEPS)

This is a rent supplement for families with children who receive Cash Assistance and have been evicted or are facing eviction, who lost their housing due to a domestic violence situation, or who have lost their housing because of health or safety issues. Formerly known as the Family Eviction Prevention Supplement (FEPS), the program has been expanded to include survivors of domestic violence and their children, as per under Social Services Law Sec. 459-a(1). Additionally, administration of the program is transitioning from the State to the City. Potentially eligible families in the community can apply for FHEPS at an HRA Job Center or begin the process by submitting a special grant request on ACCESS HRA, if the family is already in receipt of Cash Assistance.

NYC Tenant Resource Portal

NYC Tenants have access to the Office of Civil Justice's free legal services. This page includes information about how to get free legal help through OCJ for tenants facing eviction, including tenants facing a Warrant of Eviction or a Motion to Restore/Enforce an eviction or tenants who have a pending eviction case in Housing Court or at NYCHA.

This eviction prevention tool was designed by the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants (MOPT) and the Mayor's Public Engagement Unit's (PEU) Tenant Support Unit (TSU) to help renters navigate public and private resources that can stabilize their housing situation. A tenant seeking help will be taken through a series of questions and directed to the most useful resources based on their responses. MOPT and PEU have included resources from multiple city agencies, Legal Service Providers, and Community Based Organizations.

Families Applying for Emergency Housing

All families with children must apply for shelter at DHS' Prevention Assistance and Temporary Housing (PATH) intake center. PATH, located in the Bronx, is a state-of-the-art and eco-friendly facility that has been specifically sized, staffed, and laid out to meet the demand for homeless services. At nearly 77,000 square feet, the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)-certified facility measures 213 percent larger than the previous intake center. With a discreetly located medical suite, storage availability, and spacious waiting areas on each floor, complete with security kiosks and audio-visual notification systems, the center aims to engage clients and make them feel secure in their surroundings, from entry to departure.

Domestic Violence Shelters

This is an important first step since shelters serve different situations, an intake shelter can get you to the place that can help you. If you are a survivor of domestic violence and seeking shelter in New York City (for safety) you can call the New York City domestic violence hotline at 1-800-621-HOPE.  Women with children seeking shelter need to apply through the PATH center (above) as they will be able to determine the best placement.
