PS 36 students have access to several enrichment clusters to increase exposure to physical education, arts, and STEM. Clusters vary each year depending on staff assignments.
Physical Education
Students receive instruction around physical fitness activities and nutrition. A spirit of play and healthy competition is encouraged. Students are encouraged to participate in remote and in-person settings, with an emphasis on creatively using limited spaces to maximize movement safely.
PS 36 students can participate in chorus, band, or music theory classes. Lower grades learn about rhythm, melody, and common songs. Upper grades have greater focus on music notation and use electric pianos, as well as the cultural aspects of music.
The science cluster program provides students with additional opportunities to engage with the Amplify Science curriculum. Science cluster periods usually involve more hands-on learning activities with an emphasis on learning about the tools of science, such as balances and rulers, and opportunities for students to observe and collect their own data before analyzing and drawing conclusions.
This cluster introduces students to the basics of using a computer and keyboarding. In addition students have a chance to explore online tools for learning.
