District 5

Welcome to The Margaret Douglas School

P.S. 36 is located in the Morningside Heights section of Harlem, serving students in grades 3-K through 5. Our school believes that all children are talented and have multiple intelligences that can be accessed through different learning styles. We are a community school that values social emotional learning, physical and mental wellness, parent engagement, and expanded learning opportunities to help our students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

“Being a small public school with a lot of staff, P.S. 36 has the advantage of being able to give each child in it’s care support they need to be successful. I love that no child gets left behind! The environment is very nurturing and supportive!”

Academics

Our enthusiastic educational environment fosters creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills, whether students are attending school remotely or in-person.

Community School Resources

We know our students require additional supports to perform at their best academically and socially. Our community school partners ensure our students have access to high quality learning experiences, expanded learning opportunities after school and at lunch, physical health resources, and mental health resources.

Parent Resources

We support our parents to feel empowered to make the best decisions for their child’s education, which can include access to parent education classes and career training, as well as access to social services for food security, housing, and legal needs.

Staff Resources

Our teachers work their hardest to ensure all students receive an engaging and enriching learning experience, and feel supported in their classroom environment. In addition to designing high quality instruction and curriculum, our teachers provide students with social emotional learning strategies to help build community, celebrate diversity, and support self-management and mindfulness.
